Auguste-Nicolas CAIN (1821-1894). Covered bowl with two handles illustrating the fable of the Fox and the Grapes by Jean de La Fontaine. Brown patina bronze. Two foxes flank a fluted bowl decorated with interlacing, posts and pampers, the body embellished with two cartouches with the quotations "Ils sont trop verts, dit-il, et bons pour des goujats" and "Le galant en eût volontiers fait un repas". Signed. Circa 1870. H: 41 cm
