Description

Emile GALLE (1846-1904) Rare pitcher from the "Fables" service in polychrome-glazed earthenware with gilding highlights and Japanese-style decoration circa 1880. Lenticular body resting on a ginkgo-biloba tree root. On the front and back, a snowy landscape with flocks of ravens, inspired by La Fontaine's fables "Le Corbeau et le Renard" (The Raven and the Fox). Red enameled signature below: "E Gallé Déposé et E. Gallé Nancy". H : 28 cm Bibliography: Hetjens-Museum Dusseldorf, Keramik von Emile Gallé, 27/09/1981-10/01/1982, similar model reproduced on page 60 under number 131. A similar model was sold by Etude Gros-Delettrez at Drouot on 5/12/2023 under no. 3.
