Description

Philippe BUONARROTI (1761-1837) Italian revolutionary, friend and supporter of Babeuf. L.A.S., Paris 19 thermidor III (August 6, 1795), "to his friend Joseph Buonaparte"; 1 page in-4. Rare letter from the Plessis prison. "For five months I have languished in irons. I won't tell you about the injustice of this treatment, of which you must be convinced. I will only tell you that I am in the most complete misery without any hope of help. I have already tested your friendship, and I ask you for a new proof by asking you to come in some way to relieve my suffering. In the midst of so many storms I have remained pure: my heart is tranquil, and if I have to die it will be without the slightest remorse"... He also begs you to take up a collection for him, "for I have nothing: here is a famous squanderer"...
