A work written in the form of letters, in which we find a description of Île Royale and Île Saint-Jean (or Prince Edward Island) in Acadia, details of the customs of the Micmac Indians, the rivalry between the French and the English, and the capture of Louisbourg by the latter. A fine copy. Ex-libris engraved with the arms of Louis-François de Monteynard (1713-1791), Secretary of State for War from 1771 to 1774, as well as the handwritten mark of his library at Château de Tencin. Head cover restored.

The naval physician Jean-Louis de Lanessan, had practiced four years in Africa and four in Cocincina, until 1870; he therefore had special expertise in colonial matters. This report would later be used in the writing of his monumental work 'L'expansion coloniale de la France: étude économique, politique et géographique sur les établissements français d'outre-mer,' published in 1886. Jean-Louis de Lanessan, 1843 - 1919, was a deputy in six legislatures, from August 1881 to May 1914. Folio, 280x202 mm. Pp. 47, 1 blank. Good condition.
