Booklet in-8, 36 pages, pink half-percaline, gilt title on spine (19th century binding). First edition, illustrated with a lithographed plate showing the Project for a beheading machine first proposed by Schmidt. History of the guillotine, with details of the Sanson family, famous executors during the French Revolution. Bound at the end is a clipping from the Courrier français, August 25, 1846, containing a feuilleton by Gustave Brunet entitled Une exécution capitale, an account found in the papers of an Englishman. Spine unstained.
