The sale of the "sumptuous furniture of the last tyrants of France" was to be used to finance "the defense of liberty & the increase of national prosperity": tapestries, mirrors, furniture, etc., but also jewels, diamonds, precious stones and pearls "from religious houses, émigrés and royal houses".
