MANUSCRIT. - Mémoire de la Généralité de Paris. S.l.n.d. [first half of the 18th century]. 2 volumes in-4 of 324 and 409 leaves, marbled calf, ornate spine, red edges (Binding of the period). Eighteenth-century manuscript copy of the Mémoire de la généralité de Paris drawn up by Pierre Rolland de Parthenay (died 1711), Treasurer of France at the Paris finance office, for the instruction of the Duke of Burgundy (1682-1712), grandson of the Sun King. The original manuscript of the Mémoire is now lost, but copies like this one exist. A text of the utmost importance for the history of the city of Paris and its region at the end of the 17th century, the Mémoire presents a complete and official picture of the organization and state of this district, with details on topography, population, judicial administration, commerce, finance and internal security. Two headpieces missing, hinges rubbed, two jaws split.
