JANSENISM. - Collection of 18 pieces in an in-4 volume, grained basane, cold fillet, ornate spine, speckled edges (17th century binding). Collection of 18 pieces on Jansenism, including the Arrest de la Cour de Parlement, en forme de reglement pour les pensions sur les Curés (1654), the Requeste des religieuses de Port-Royal des Champs, à Monseigneur l'Archevesque de Paris, and especially the 4 parts of the Apologie pour les religieuses de Port-Royal du Saint-Sacrement, Contre les Injustices & les violences du procédé dont on a usé envers ce Monastère (1665) by Claude de Sainte-Marthe, Pierre Nicole and Antoine Arnauld. Attached is a contemporary engraving of a view of Port-Royal Abbey (lined proof with minor restoration outside the square line). A facsimile of Louis XIV's autograph letter ordering the arrest of the chaplain and confessor of the Port-Royal nuns in November 1664 has been mounted at the head of the volume. The end of the third part of the Apologie, pp. 33-96, is poorly bound in the volume. Binding restored (hinges, headpieces and corners), title renewed.
