In-12, basane, fine gilt frieze framing the boards, ribbed spine decorated with gilt fleurons, red tr., title p. in red mar. (period binding). 8-164-330-45-20-24 pp. Important collection of texts on the great crisis that pitted the parliaments against Louis XV in 1753, against a backdrop of religious quarrels over the Unigenitus bull. The Conseil d'Etat automatically rejected the Parliament's rulings condemning ecclesiastics who refused the Eucharist to faithful suspected of Jansenism and unable to produce a "confession bill" stamped by a confessor approved by the Archbishop of Paris. The collection contains: 1. Tradition of the facts which demonstrate the system of independence which the Bishops have opposed in the various centuries, to the invariable principles of the King's sovereign justice over all his subjects. 2. Monumens précieux de la sagesse de nos rois ou recueil d'Ordonnances. 3. Collection des arrêts et arrétés du parlement, et des Discours de M. le premier Président, depuis le 16 décembre 1752, jusqu'a l'exil des Enquêtes. 4. La déclaration du Roi, pour la Translation de la Grand'Chambre à Pontoise. 5. Disposition des Capitulaires sur le sacrement de l'Eucharistie.
