FRENCH MANTEL CLOCK. SECOND EMPIRE S. XIX. Landscape format clock made of white marble with two-tone bronzes, gilded and bluing. High plinth, in two bodies, on which sits the group consisting of a young woman in classic attire of abundant folds; reclining, while reading a big book, on the altar in which the clock is housed, which in turn has plant ornamentation. Movement Paris round, large size, signed: Bellote to Paris, of counters wheel, with metal suspension of the pendulum. Hours and half-hours chiming on bell, 8 days of march. Louis XV dial with Roman and Arabic numerals, in white enamel, also signed Bellote, "Fte. de Bronzes", Michel-Vivienne; referenced in the Dictionary of Tardy. In running condition. 50 cm. x64.50 cm. x25 cm.
