TABRIZ carpet (Iran), late 20th century Dimensions: 81 x 57cm. Technical features: Wool velvet on silk backing. A richly attired Achaemenid imperial couple stroll through what appear to be the ruins of Persepolis (on fire?). The King of Kings, beard in bloom, crowned, scepter in hand, brings his beautiful wife, with her diadem and pectoral, to the edge of a water lily pond. Wooden frame with metal ornaments and "immortal" Persian warriors standing guard. Rare and beautiful graphics and matching frame.

On a cream-colored field are developed vegetable compositions in vivid colors and contrasting shapes. In the borders, fretwork of corollas alternate with borders and synthetic motifs. Tabriz is one of the oldest carpet weaving centers and has a great diversity of carpet types. The rope materials are generally made of cotton or silk which is used for very fine carpets) Tabriz has one of the most diverse displays of designs, from medallions, to figural carpets, etc. Tabriz has been a large and world famous carpet manufacturing center in Iran and the world. It played an important role in the development of rich traditions of decorative and applied arts.
