Giuseppe Cesari 1568 Arpino-1640 Roma, bottega di Battle of Tullus Hostilius against the Veienti and the Fidenati The canvas presented here takes up one of the episodes executed in fresco by Giuseppe Cesari, known to most as the Cavalier d'Arpino, for the decoration of the Hall of the Horatii and Curiatii in the Capitoline Museums in Rome, a room set aside for the audiences of the Public Council. Conceived as a series of tapestries stretched along the walls, the cycle of frescoes designed by the artist depicts some famous episodes from the history of Rome's origins, narrated and handed down by the historian Livy. W 287 - H 153 Cm oil on canvas The work is in fair conservative/aesthetic condition. Rintelato. No dropping or weakening of the pictorial layer is observed. Observation with Wood's lamp revealed the presence of small reintegrated falls and color retouches spread over the entire surface of the work.
