Description

JUAN ADSUARA RAMOS (Castellón, 1893 - 1973). "Calixta", c. 1919. Polychrome plaster. It has flaws and needs restoration. Signed. Measurements: 68 x 33 x 31 cm. Born in Castellón and encouraged by his school teacher, since he was a child he was exercised in the drawing and in view of his aptitudes he was pensioned by the Provincial Council of Castellón to study in the School of San Fernando in Madrid. In 1912 he obtained the third medal in the National Exhibition of Fine Arts. After returning from military service in his hometown, he made some busts, decorative and monumental sculptures for public buildings. He worked throughout his life and traveled with scholarships and competitions granted to him. Above all, he was a great admirer of religious imagery, being Berruguete his greatest master. He was an outstanding member of the Valencian avant-garde of the thirties. It has flaws and needs restoration.
