Measurement: ~27.5” x 35.5” (unframed) Condition: Very Good. This is an original, hand signed, acrylic on canvas painting in the manner/style of the extraordinary and highly acclaimed contemporary artist, Peter Max. Although this artwork, as others described as, “in the manner of” and having no accompanying documentation or authentication (very expensive process), it’s extremely collectible and typically very costly. This painting of Marilyn Monroe is not presently framed. However, the consignor has agreed to frame the art if the winning bidder notifies Intervendue Auction. (Cost for framing will be an additional $350 and delivery will be delayed by ~2 weeks.) Peter Max is a German-American artist known for using bright colors in his work. Max’s early artwork are associated with the visual arts and culture of the 1960s, particularly psychedelic art and pop art. Max had an incredibly diverse childhood; born and raised in Germany, before his family moved to Shanghai, China. They then moved to Israel, then to Paris before settling in Brooklyn, New York. It was those experiences that Max said greatly influenced his appreciation for art. Max has been the official artist for many major international events, including the 1994 World Cup, the Grammy Awards, the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, the Super Bowl and others. In 2000, Max designed the paint scheme Dale Earnhardt drove at the Winston all-star race, deviating from Earnhardt's trademark black car. He was also the Official Artist of the 2000 World Series, and the "Subway Series" between the New York Yankees and the New York Mets.Throughout his career, Peter Max was able to adeptly intertwine art and everyday life. He dealt with and integrated themes of current events in his artwork, using familiar images including celebrities, and creating art for public mediums such as murals or on postage stamps. He simply made art relatable for all viewers.He once exclaimed, “I'm just wowed by the universe. I'm just glad to do something I love to do. I love color, I love painting, I love shapes, I love composition, I love the people around me, and I’m adoring it all.” Peter Max has been featured in more than 46 museums and 50 galleries worldwide. His work is adored by art collectors worldwide and is considered to be colorfully glamorous, sophisticated and encompassing.
