Souvenir de Roland Bonaparte. Necessary box offered by Prince Roland. Covered in green morocco-style paper (insolate on the lid), stamped with the imperial crown in gold. Sheathed in silk and ivory velvet and signed in gold by Armand CARETTE Bijoutier Joaillier 43 44 Galerie Montpensier, it contains : -A tumbler -An egg cup -One fork. One spoon -A small spoon, partly in vermeil. All in silver, with striated and spiral decoration, engraved with foliage and the imperial crown. Minerve head and "Ve EC" goldsmith hallmark. B.E. Circa 1880. 26 x 18 x 9 cm. Total net weight: 200 g. Presented with: a carte de visite of Prince Roland Bonaparte, second lieutenant in the 36th Line, with mourning border. A photographic visiting card of the imperial family and a mourning-edged visiting card of Prince and Princess Roland Bonaparte with the Prince's autograph note: "Thank M Me Vasseur for their excellent memory. The Princess was very touched by M Vasseur's gracious attention and thanks them sincerely.RB" Background: Grandson of Lucien Bonaparte, Roland (1858-1924) served in the army after the fall of the Empire until 1886. He pursued a career as a geographer and botanist.
