Description

Six molded and painted wood chairs with rectangular flat backs, resting on double baluster legs; some with Restoration royal marks (three crowned fleurs-de-lis in an oval), FON mark, inventory numbers from the Château de Fontainebleau in ink, old labels, that of the gilder Chatard and a location label dated 1809; (with differences in molding and carving, notably one chair with a rosette in the squares; composite set). Empire period. H: between 89.5 cm and 92.5 cm, L: between 46 cm and 48 cm Provenance : Château de Fontainebleau (for five chairs, one without corresponding mark). Numerous similar chairs were supplied during the Empire by Jacob-Desmalter for the various imperial residences, while others were supplied at the same time by carpenters such as Jean-Pierre Louis.
