Description

Wallet attributed to Emperor Napoleon I Gusseted wallet in the form of an envelope with a cutaway flap in cardboard covered with white silk embroidered with gold thread, polychrome silk and gold and silver sequin, depicting on the front the large imperial coat of arms and embroidered "Kaiser Napoleon"; and on the reverse the numeral "N" and "1805" encircled by a laurel wreath and surmounted by the imperial crown. Interior with two gussets of fine pink silk framed by a gilded garland. Fine gilded closing cord. Accompanied by a handwritten note: Envelope having belonged to Emperor Napoleon I given by Him to his brother King Louis of Holland / later given by the King to my grandfather Cuvillier-Fleury 21 x 26 cm Germany 1805-1806 Wallet set in an imitation book case bound in red morocco with the numeral "A. D." and decorated with petit fer. Blue silk interior. Provenance : -Alfred-Auguste Cuvillier-Fleury (1802-1887), secretary to King Louis of Holland in exile in Rome and Florence, tutor to the Duc d'Aumale in 1827 and later his secretary. Later descended. -Private collection.
