Giuseppe ROCCHI Early 19th century Italian school "The Emperor Napoleon I in antique style". Carved Carrara marble bust on pedestal, signed on the reverse "Guiseppe ROCCHI". Height: 69 cm B.E. Bibliography: -A. Panzetta, Dizionario degli Scultori Italiani dell' Ottocento e del primo Novocento, Milan 1990, vol.1, p. 235. - Guy Ledoux-Lebard, Napoléon portraits contemporains et statues, p.94, on Italian busts of the Emperor. History: The bust is in the spirit of the Italian busts of Emperor Napoleon I, following in the footsteps of the Roman emperors. The model is Chaudet's bust. Little is known about Rocchi, except that he worked in Carrara and collaborated with Pietro Freccia in the 1840s.
