Early 19th century French school, after GROS. "General de Division Lasalle in bust, wearing the Legion of Honor, the Iron Crown and the Military Merit of Bavaria." Large oval miniature on ivory. 14 x 10 cm. Presented in a blackened wood frame, under glass encircled with gilded brass. B.E. Biography: Antoine Charles Louis, comte de Lasalle (1775-1809) Aide-de-camp to Kellermann (1795), squadron leader of hussars in the Army of Italy, he captured an Austrian battalion at Rivoli (January 14, 1797). He particularly distinguished himself at Stettin (October 30, 1806), then in Spain (1808-1809). Called to the German army, he fought at Essling (May 21-22, 1809) and was killed at Wagram (July 6). He was one of the most prestigious cavalrymen of the Grande Armée.
