Early 19th century French school, circa 1810. "Captain Jules de Canouville, in the uniform of Aide Camp to Marshal Berthier." Fine oval miniature on enamel. 4.5 x 3.5 cm. Rectangular gilt bronze frame decorated with a frieze of stars and palmettes, trimmed on the reverse with two handwritten bills in pen, one in the hand of Comte Ernest de Canouville, Jules' brother: "Jules de Canouville, killed at the battle of Moscowa on September 7, 1812". , the other annotated: "written by his brother Cte Ernest." Presented with cartouche on a blackened wood hanging frame. 15 x 12 cm. B.E. First Empire period.
