Cuirassiers officer's crest helmet, model 1845. Silver-plated copper bomb (plating and maker's marks on back). Gilded brass crest with repoussé decoration of gadroons, flowers, oak leaves and laurel leaves. Rain screen decorated with a diamond-shaped braid, adorned on the front with a pomegranate under a crowned Gorgon head. Headband in marine calfskin (very slight loss on the right-hand side with trace of indentation). Eight-ring chinstrap with stripes, mounted on black cloth-covered leather and held by a buckle; plume holder chased with foliage; radiating rosettes and rush, marmoset enriched with foliage on an amati background trimmed with scarlet horsehair; all in gilded brass. Black horsehair mane. Inner leather headpiece decorated with gold petit fer (small missing parts). Black leather-lined headpiece. Green leather-lined visor. In its shaped white cloth protection and shaped wooden carrying case, lined inside with ivory skin, closing with three pivot fasteners and transportable by copper handle. B.E.
