. Two wax seals bearing the arms of Baron Eschasseriaux (1753-1824) a-ovale, brass, boxwood handle. 28 x 24 mm. b-ovale, silver, handle missing. 19 x 15 mm. B.E. First Empire period. Biography: Eschassériaux rallied to the new ideas and became commander of the National Guard in Corme-Royal, his native town. In 1790, he was elected administrator of the Saintes district, then joined the Directoire of the Charente-Inférieure department. In 1791, having become one of Charente-Inférieure's leading revolutionary figures, he was elected deputy to the Legislative Assembly. On September 5, 1792, he was re-elected to the Convention Nationale. In 1795, he was re-elected to the Conseil des Cinq-Cents by Charente-Inférieure, along with fifteen other departments as a deputy. Eschassériaux enthusiastically supported the coup d'état of 18 Brumaire and joined the Tribunat. He served for seven years, demonstrating great loyalty to the First Consul, now Emperor. In 1806, Napoleon appointed him chargé d'affaires to the Republic of Valais, then sent him as minister plenipotentiary to the Principality of Lucca and Piombino until 1809. His services were rewarded with the Légion d'Honneur (Frimaire 4, An IX), followed by the title of Baron de l'Empire on February 14, 1810. In 1816, the Restoration exiled him as a regicide.
