GIRON Mathieu. Au Roy, sur le sacre de Sa Majesté (...) où il est traicté de la Sainte Ampoulle (sic). Lyon, Guichard Juilliéron et Thibaud Ancelin, 1594; in-8, 32 pp. in late 19th-century dark brown morocco binding, smooth spine with hazelnut morocco binding throughout, morocco linings au naturel with cold-stamped arms in the center and numeral in the corners, gilt edges (Chambolle-Duru). First edition of this precious and very rare account of the coronation of King Henri IV. As the city of Reims was in the hands of the Ligueurs, the coronation took place in Chartres Cathedral. Several texts of this kind were published after the coronation to support the King's accession, despite numerous breaches of coronation protocol. As for the publisher, Julliéron, he was widely known to be in favor of Henri IV. Antique portrait of the King in profile, engraved by Legrand (circa 1720). A luxurious copy bound in morocco, lined with the coat of arms of Count René de Galard de Béarn, whose ancestors had helped Henri de Navarre - then known as le Béarnais - to ascend the throne. Ex-libris in red morocco.
