AUSTERLITZ (campaign). - NAPOLÉON Ier. Printed document entitled Proclamation. S.l.n.n., [late December 1805 or early 1806]. In folio. Proclamation dated Schönbrunn Palace, 6 nivôse an XIV [December 27, 1805], announcing the signing of the Peace of Presbourg, the previous day, with Austria, defeated at Austerlitz on December 2. Located some fifty kilometers east of Vienna, Presburg was then part of the Austrian-controlled Kingdom of Hungary, and is now the capital of Slovakia, under the name of Bratislava. "Soldiers, the peace between me and the Emperor of Austria is signed. You have fought two campaigns this off-season; you have fulfilled everything I expected of you. I'm about to leave for my capital. I have granted promotions and rewards to those who have distinguished themselves the most: I will keep everything I have promised you. You have seen your emperor share with you all your perils and fatigues; I also want you to come and see him surrounded by the grandeur and splendor that belong to the sovereign of the first people in the universe. In the first days of May, I'll be giving a big party in Paris; you'll all be there, and then we'll see where the happiness of our homeland and the interests of our glory will lead us [...]".
