Description
Francis CARCO real name François Carcopino-Tusoli, a native of Nouméa (1886-1958), writer, poet, journalist and songwriter, painter of the obscure streets. Correspondence comprising 24 signed letters and autograph cards addressed between 1931 and 1955 to various friends and relations, including writers René Doumic, Jacques des Gachons and Alfred Machard, actress Bella Reine and Marguerite Marchandeau. "Thank you for sending me the last fragment of Train noir. They are admirable pages: so I phoned Denoël, the publisher, and offered to publish your manuscript." "You're very kind to think of me for your collection but, to my great regret, it's not possible for me to appear in it, as I currently have so many luxury books in preparation that collectors would be appalled at the announcement of yet another n.th". Three of the letters are accompanied by their envelopes, and are addressed on letterheads from Rue de Douai, Rue Barbet de Jouy, Quai d'Orsay, Béthune, aux Fleurs or Isle-Adam. One letter is on the letterhead of the Académie Goncourt, and the postcards are addressed to Nice or Belle Ile.
