Ardébil rug (cotton warp and weft, wool pile), Northwest Persia, circa 1960-1980 147 x 100 cm The rug is based on a Chirvan (Caucasus) carpet: the blue-gray background is enhanced by small geometric shrubs and polychrome geometric floral motifs. A red and ivory kufic border is framed by two multicolored rosette borders. (wear and tear)

CHIRVAN gallery carpet (Caucasus), late 19th century Dimensions: 312 x 95cm. Technical features: Wool velvet on wool foundation. A brick field hosts four crenellated lozenge medallions, interspersed with two sky-arched cruciform shapes. These five medallions are adorned with polychrome vegetation. Medes stars, botehs and rhombic corollas embellish the field. Wide old gold border with undulating stylized leaves and alternating pyramidal floral compositions, flanked by two royal blue counter-borders with garlands of brick florets. Rare graphics. (Worn, as is)
