A CIZHOU TIGER-FORM STONEWARE PILLOW A CIZHOU TIGER-FORM STONEWARE PILLOW China, style of the Jin dynasty (1125-1234), but dating to the Qing dynasty (1644-1912). Finely modeled with its head resting upon the front paws and painted with bold brown stripes over a biscuit glaze covering the body, with a broad head, short ears, wide snout, and mouth slightly ajar, the limbs tucked below the body, the tail wrapped around the launches. The underside unglazed. Provenance: The collection of The Zelnik István Southeast Asian Gold Museum. Institutional art collection in Belgium, acquired from the above. Dr. István Zelnik, President of the Hungarian South and Southeast Asian Research Institute, is a former high-ranking Hungarian diplomat who spent several decades in Southeast Asia, building the largest known private collection of Asian art in Europe. Condition: Very good condition with minor wear, light surface scratches, few tiny nicks, and firing flaws including uneven glazing.
