Thein, Heinrich - Figure group - porcelain, unmarked - probably Meissen, 1x fully sculpted figure group "Mother with child and jester" on plinth, in white porcelain, with signature "Thein" on the reverse, with firing marks and cracks, fingers of the female figure and arm of the jester missing (broken off), hca. 50.5cm. From the artist's estate. Artist information: Heinrich Thein (1888 - 1969) is considered one of the most expressive German small sculptors of the 20th century, who was artistic director of the Sächsische Ofen- und Wandplatten-Werke in Meissen from 1925. In addition to his responsibility for the model department, he also worked as a teacher at the factory school. Between 1945 and 1947, he was head of the design department at the Meissen State Porcelain Manufactory. After his employment, Heinrich Thein also worked successfully as a freelance artist. (Bergmann: Meissen Artists - Figures. Erlangen 2010 / Förster, Steffen: Art. "Heinrich Thein". In: Saxon Biography). Object information: The female figure with child probably represents "Mary with child". The artist may have been inspired by the novel "Die Heilige und ihr Narr", one of the most successful German novels of the first half of the 20th century.
