Estudou na Escola Superior de Belas Artes, onde se licenciou com 18 valores e realizou o curso de Ciências Pedagógicas, na Faculdade de Letras da Universidade do Porto. Enquanto estudou em Belas Artes, foi bolseiro da Fundação Calouste Gulbenkian. Colaborou no atelier do escultor Barata Feyo em 1958-1959 e estagiou com Júlio Resende e Manuel Lagarto. É, atualmente, professor aposentado do Ensino Secundário e Ensino Superior Privado.
