Fiorenzo and Gino PUGI, known as FRATELLI PUGI (active 1870-1915) Psyche White marble Signed and localized on the back: Firenze 70 x 31 x 27 cm. Accompanied by two albumen prints, dating from the 19th century (21 x 15.8 cm). Sons of the famous sculptor Guglielmo PUGI (1850-1915), a leading exponent of the Belle Époque style, the PUGI brothers were mainly favored by American clients, who were fond of delicate, feminine allegorical subjects, like our Psyche. Several of their sculptures were shown at the 1901 Pan-American Exposition in Buffalo, New York, and at the 1904 World's Fair in St. Louis, Missouri. Another example of a Psyche, in white marble, was recently offered on the British art market (Sotheby's London, December 15, 2021, lot 95, sold for £12,600). (A small chip on the right side of the neck).
