Description

Portrait de Nasser al-Din Shah Qajar (r. 1848-96) "par Dust Ali Khan Mo'ayyer-ol-Mamalek (Téhéran, 1876-1966) On his mother's side, Dust 'Ali Khan was the grandson of Naser al-Din Shah, Shah of Iran from 1848 to 1896. On his father's side, he was descended from a family of assayers and royal mint masters whose roots go back to the Safavid era (1501-1736). He was also a painter and writer, with a keen sense of atmosphere and detail, he compiled his memories of the last years of the Qajar court of Persia. His account ""Yaddashtha-i az zendegani-e khosusi-e Naser al- Din Shah"" (Notes on the private life of Nasser al-din Shah) is a rare source of information on his grandfather's court - its modes of governance, royal hunts, palaces and gardens, life in the harem, and much more. Born into a princely family, the painter had no need to monetise his works. As a result very few of them can be found on the market. Some are kept in the Golestan Museum, others in the Sepeh Bank (Tehran) and in private collections, notably the princely one, as the provenance of this work."
