Description

Ernest CHAPLET (1835-1909). Haviland workshop, rue de Blomet (1883-1885). Pan-shaped enameled stoneware vase, with incised and sculpted decoration on one shoulder of a putto on a leaf and a butterfly gathering flowers also in relief on the other side. Rotating decoration of floral seeds, engraved and enhanced with polychrome enamels and gold, matte brown patina "like that of a rusty Japanese iron sword". Marked H & C° au rosaire, from 1882, form number 208 and engraved initials of the GB turner accompanied by the number 22. H. 28 cm. Bibliography. Jean D'Albis, Ernest Chaplet, 1976.
