PAGUENAUD Jean Louis (1876-1952). "Funchal in Madeira". Oil on card signed lower right. 24.5 x 36.5 cm. Framed. PAGUENAUD Jean-Louis (Coussac-Bonneval 1876 - Limoges 1952) French painter. Spent part of his childhood in Algiers, where he discovered the sea, before his father, a gendarme, was transferred to Limoges. There, he attended the School of Decorative Arts while working as a painter in a porcelain factory. He then studied with William Bouguereau, before joining the navy. From his travels, he brought back gouaches and drawings, which he exhibited at the 1905 Salon des Indépendants. In 1922, he passed the competition to become official painter to the Navy. He lived for a time on a barge in Paris, then returned to Limoges, where he died in 1952. His works are kept in Paris at the Musée de la Marine and in Bordeaux at the Ecole de Santé Navale.
