Carved walnut statue of Saint Stephen. The left arm, carrying the maniple, was to present the instruments of his torture, while the right arm, absent, was to hold the martyr's palm. The face is very beautiful and expressive. Remains of polychromy on the sides, the front stripped and waxed. The fingers of the left hand and the right forearm are missing, as well as woodworm damage to the back and lower back. Franco-Flemish art, first half of the 16th century. Height Height : 97 cm Saint Stephen, the first Christian martyr, was stoned to death according to legend.
