CRISTÓBAL MARTÍN ABDUL WAHID (Madrid, 1956). Ashtray "Frog in pond", 1983. Patinated bronze, copy 2/99. Signed, dated and numbered. Measurements: 7 x 12 x 10 cm. Self-taught sculptor, Cristobal Martin is linked to Moriarty Gallery since its inception, in fact he has made several solo exhibitions and many editions of Arco with them. In 89-90 he was in Rome with the Scholarship of the Academy, where he took the opportunity to learn marble carving in the workshops of Pietrasanta in Tuscany. The following Banesto Foundation Grant was the occasion for a symbolic proposal. His work has always focused on a poetic-symbolic interpretation of nature, trying to reveal the underlying mystery behind the forms.

He was classically trained at Art Center College in Pasanda, California. Following the great sculptural masters such as Auguste Rodin and Gian Lorenzo Bernini, he adds a contemporary element to his figural creations. His ability to focus on how the body can be manipulated has led to his work with Cirque du Soleil, MGM, and the Olympic Games. His process involves making a clay "sketch" or maquette of his work. These quarter-size models are the basis for his half life to life-size works. He then utilizes the famously painstaking Lost Wax method in which his work will become first a wax model and then a bronze sculpture.
