Primitive carved figure of a standing warrior holding an openwork shield, his head crowned with a receptacle perhaps intended to receive offerings. Weathered wood. KORWAR PAPUA - NEW GUINEA (Cenderawash Bay). Dimensions : 65 cm The Korwar statuette, the ancestor's "spirit", was the receptacle for his soul wandering the earth. When the soul leaves the statuette to return to the world of the ancestors, the Korwar is desacralized.
