Description

Ziba mask, Haya (?), Kagera region, Tanzania Wood with brown patina H. 22 cm A face with simple, yet elegant features, open eyes on either side of a fine nose, and a slightly recessed, windowed mouth. Residual white pigment remains on the forehead and corners of the mouth. Also present in Uganda, the Ziba are a people settled in northeastern Tanzania, close to the Indian Ocean, sharing a homogeneous formal culture with their Paré, Shamba and Mbugu neighbors.
