LA FONTAINE (Jean de). Contes et nouvelles en vers. Amsterdam, Pierre Brunel, 1696. 2 volumes in one small in-8, brown basane, spine ribbed and decorated. Spine entirely rebound, binding much restored. Small old wetness in lower margin. Reprint of the first illustrated edition of 1685, with the engravings by Romeyn de Hooghe turned inside out. The illustration consists of a frontispiece and a mid-page engraved figure for each tale (full-page for the last four), i.e. 29 engravings for t.1 and 33 for t.2. (Rochambeau: Contes, n°36.)
