TWO SATSUMA CERAMIC KOROS WITH SILVER COVERS, MEIJI TWO SATSUMA CERAMIC KOROS WITH SILVER COVERS, MEIJI Japan, Meiji period (1868-1912) Each of compressed globular form, supported on three small feet. The smaller with a deep-blue ground, decorated in gilt and polychrome enamels with three lobed reserves featuring auspicious objects, the silver cover worked in repoussé and embossed with further auspicious symbols. The larger with a deep-blue ground featuring scrolling vines and heart-shaped leaves, decorated in gilt and polychrome enamels with three circular reserves enclosing a shishi, the fine silver cover worked in repoussé and embossed with a band of lappets in openwork enclosing a design of heart-shaped leaves. Condition: Very good condition with minor wear and manufacturing irregularities. Provenance: Austrian private collection. The smaller Koro with old collector’s labels to the base.
