Description

Fragment of an Egyptian sarcophagus panel made of possibly cedar wood painted with the goddess Isis, Late Period or Late Period (664-332 BC) Isis appears touched with the solar disk, has wings and carries the feather of truth Maat in her hand. The wings give a divine and protective character to the deity that has them and seem to be inspired by the kites that utter characteristic cries, similar to the cry of mourners, so the presence of winged Isis is justified in a sarcophagus as protection for the dead. Restorations in the joints of the boards. Framed Provenance: French auction house, French private collection, Roger Videau Collection, Paris sold at Drouot-Richelieu in April 1989 Measurements: 90 x 50 cm
