Marcel DAMBOISE (1903-1992) Medallion of Jeanne Sicard, large size, second version, 1963 Plaster Signed and dated (lower right): Damboise 1963 D. 43 cm Inv. MD-S-064Gj-00 Provenance: Artist's studio, by descent The sculptor created a bust of Jeanne Sicard (today only known from an early photograph), plaster medallions and a small bronze medal (of which several copies are known). Marcel Damboise met Jeanne Sicard (1913-1962) through Albert and Francine Camus. The latter was a childhood friend of Jeanne and Marguerite Dobrenn, as all three were from Oran. Jeanne Sicard took part in the cultural movement of the Front Populaire and joined the Communist Party. She died in a car accident in 1962, and this portrait is the sculptor's tribute to her.
