Despite a few cubic centimetres less, its maximum power is 35 hp at 7,250 rpm. Among other particularities, BMW has chosen to offer a version of this model that could be described as "Light", with a power output of 27 hp at 6,500 rpm, probably for homologation reasons in certain countries. Otherwise, the 2 versions are identical and very close to their 650cc big sister. Over 28,000 units of the R45 were produced between 1978 and 1985.
