Bugatti was joined by Maserati and Alfa Romeo. The latter were presented as favorites, notably with the two Tipo B by René Dreyfus and Tazio Nuvolari entered by Scuderia Ferrari. The third Alfa Romeo was driven by Mariette "Hellé-Nice" Delangle, the only woman in the field. the other two Alfa cars completed the double after a spectacular duel, enabling Tazio Nuvolari and the young Ferrari team to win for the first time on the streets of on the streets of Palois.
