In-12, [10]-454 pp. Tan calf, ribbed spine decorated with gilt monogram with double B, red mar. title page, gilt bookplate on tail "Biblio Bignon", triple gilt fillet framing the boards, gilt superlibris on first board "Bibliothec Bignon" with eagles' heads and radiant sun (period binding). Headcap damaged and badly missing, otherwise a fine copy from the prestigious library of Jean-Paul BIGNON (1662-1743), preacher to Louis XIV and librarian to the King. He published several works, including one under the pseudonym Sandisson. On taking up his post as keeper of the King's library, he sold his collection of some 50,000 volumes to the financier Law, who in turn sold it to Cardinal Dubois (probably the other way round, according to a handwritten note added to Olivier Hermal Roton's reference).
