Gold chain with Kushan coins. 2nd century AD. 46.78g. L 43.5cm. Gold chain of two strands with clasp with three set Kushan coins as pendants. The strands are held together by interlocking loops of gold wire with grooved, tubular elements. The coins are dinars of Kanishka I (127 - 151 AD). On the obverse of all three dinars: "King of Kings, Kanishka Kushan", king with elephant whip, lance, sword and flames on the r. shoulder sacrificing over altar. Shoulder sacrificing over altar. The reverse depicts the deity Oesho, who is equated with Shiva, the moon god Mao and the sun god Mithra. In the Hindu triad, Shiva stands for destruction; in his abstract form, he embodies fertility. Statuette of Mahakala Gomponagpo, wrathful manifestation of Shiva. Tibet, 18th century. H 16.1 cm, W 14.5 cm. Fire-gilt bronze, small inlays of turquoise and red coral. The six-armed deity is depicted in a lunge, has flaming hair and the third eye on his forehead and wears a skull crown. She holds a tiger skin behind her back with two hands, a prayer chain, a trishula (trident) and an hourglass-shaped hand drum with two hands. At the bottom, Vinayaka, the symbol of Hinduism, lies on a lotus base with a separate elephant head. Gilding somewhat rubbed in small areas, otherwise intact. Provenance: From the private collection of H. N. in Franconia, in this collection since 1987.

Shiva Nataraja On a rectangular stepped pedestal with the dwarf demon Apasmara reclining on a lotus pedestal, embodying sloth and stupidity. On his body in a dancing pose the four-armed god Shiva Natarja with an hourglass drum, a blazing flame and the hair braid spreading out to the side. India, 19th/20th century H. 24 cm.

Indian Art Three Virabhadra plates in embossed copper India, 19th century . . Cm 22.50x15.50. Three embossed plaques executed according to the classical iconography, which features the figure of Shiva in his warrior version in a central position, flanked by Daksha distinguished by a ram's head and Bhadrakali. The sun and moon symbols, a Shivalinga and a small depiction of Nandi complete the composition. The size shown refers to the larger object.Provenance: Berger Collection.
