The splendid illustrations, some full-page, are by Ettore Tito, Tony Grubhofer, Luigi Cima, Mainardo Pagani, Cesare Laurenti, Egisto Lancerotto, Guglielmo Berti, Emanuele Brugnoli, and Millo Bortoluzzi. The edition also appeared simultaneously in Vienna. The author, Henriette Perl, 1845-1915, who signs herself with the male name Henry, spent her childhood in Italy, where she returned in 1878, settling in Venice until 1896.
