Description

Poster Invitation to work in Germany. Femmes Françaises! (Les trois générations). Ces lignes ont été écrites pour vous. Sepia lithographic poster measuring 60 x 40 cm. Good condition. Poster in response to Laval's 'pathetic' appeal to French women on June 22, 1942 to send their sons, husbands or brothers to work in Germany. Pierre Laval (1883 - 1945) was a politician, president of the Council of Ministers of the French Republic four times. After the end of the Second World War, he was tried and sentenced to death for his leading role in the Vichy Republic and for being mainly responsible for the policy of collaborationism with Nazi Germany. The manifesto refers to the speech he made on June 22, 1942 on the radio, which has remained famous above all for the phrase: 'I hope for the victory of Germany, because otherwise Bolshevism would install itself everywhere.' The effect on public opinion was disastrous and the government ministers themselves were left bewildered.
