WWI POSTER ON NATIONAL LOAN. NAUDIN. Emprunt de la Défense Nationale. Poster measuring 80 x 114 cm. Black and white illustration, inscription in red. Bottom left typographical data, right signature. Good condition. Patriotic First World War poster published in Paris in 1915 to encourage the French to take out the first loan for national defense. Posters were an excellent means of propaganda and many were created with allegorical 'patriotic' themes, intended to arouse emotion and generosity. The motto 'Faisons Tous Notre Devoir, Nos fils aux armées, Notre or au pays' stands out in red. Published under the auspices of the Union des Sociétés de Préparation Militaire de France.Bernard Étienne Hubert Naudin, 1876-1946, was a French painter, draughtsman, caricaturist and engraver. In 1914, at the beginning of the First World War, he was enlisted as an infantry sergeant and became a war illustrator, depicting life in the trenches. His work on the front line earned him a knighthood in the Legion of Honor.
