CALLOT. Le retour de la chasse. The return of the hunt. 17th century Etching and burin. 112x245mm. Small margins. State 2/3. Bottom left: 'Callot in. f. Israel ex. cum privilege Regis'. Composition framed by a thin line. Laid paper. Good specimen. Callot represents a grandiose landscape, with two hills, houses. a stream in the center crossed by a bridge, a fisherman. On a trail to the left, a mounted hunter, his falcon at his wrist, comes from hunting. Near him is the footman with two dogs. In the background, on the left, a shepherd can be seen with his flock.

Good condition. The paper reports the debate and measures taken by the National Assembly at the October 22 session. It opens with the intervention of the deputies 'des gend de Couleur, habitans des Isles' who ask the Assembly to abolish slavery and then speak of the 'secret mission' of the Duke of Orleans. In the opening summary: "Offrande de six millions, faite par les gens de Couleur, Habitant des Iles, formant le quart de leur revenu. Motion tendante à faire ordonner le retour de Mr le Duc d'Orléans en France... "Pinel: " L'Assemblée nationale a reçu une délégation de gens de couleur libres de l'île de Saint-Domingue. Depuis des mois, ces Noirs affranchis et ces mulâtres des Antilles attendent ce moment avec impatience. Aussi est-ce avec fierté que julien Raimond, un riche mulâtre, a lu en leur nom la pétition qu'ils avaient rédigée. Dans ce texte, ils font valoir qu'ils sont, au même titre que les colons blancs, propriétaires, français et libres. Ils demandent donc de siéger eux aussi à l'Assemblée et se prononcent en faveur du maintien de l'esclavage dans les colonies.
