Chinese Art Sumak Carpet. 20th century. . . Cm 168x269. beautiful Sumak rug made of hand-woven wool and cotton warp this type of workmanship originated in ancient Persia and then spread to the borders of Asia, all the way to China. A beautiful floral pattern characterizes the entire rug.

Keschan carpet (cotton warp and weft, wool pile), central Persia, north of Isfahan, circa 1940-1970. The rug features a central red poly-lobed medallion, extended by two pendants, on a navy blue background enhanced by an elegant polychrome stylized floral design. The entire composition is embellished with four large red spandrels. A wide red border with flower garlands is framed by two counter-borders. 380 x 260 cm (Slight wear and fraying). Kechan was an early town renowned for its mulberry tree cultivation and silk spinning. Kechan's fabrics and shawls were renowned during the Sefevid period (16th-18th century), and many "Polish" carpets were woven here. In the second half of the 19th century, Kechan once again played an important role in Persian quality carpet production, thanks in particular to Mostashem, the weaver who gave his name to quality carpets.
